Be a Double Donor Heroby Lauren Bailey
Could you be a Double Donor Hero?
With the acquisition of two new machines, CBCC is now accepting double red cell donations in our Charlotte center and at select mobile drives. What does that mean for you? If you are an O type blood donor, and meet the qualifications to be a Double Donor Hero, you can give twice the number of red cells as in a whole blood donation – making the twice the impact! PLUS, you don’t have to donate as frequently. Double red donors are only eligible to donate every 112 days. This is a great option if you have a heart for making a difference, but can’t seem to find the time to donate every 56 days. The process takes only slightly longer than a whole blood donation. You are connected to an apheresis machine that removes only red cells, returning the rest of the blood to your body. The needle is smaller, and many people say they feel better afterward because they are only losing one element of their blood. It’s a win-win!
Qualifications: Women – must weigh at least 150 lbs, and be at least 5’5” Men – must weigh at least 130 lbs, and be at least 5’1”
