Donate in honor of Allyby CBCC
Ally understands the importance of blood donation better than any 12-year-old should.
She was diagnosed with Stage 3 Hodgkin lymphoma in April. But before Ally could even receive her first chemotherapy treatment at Levine Children’s Hospital, doctors determined that her hemoglobin count was too low. She needed a blood transfusion.
That first transfusion brought Ally’s color back. Her father – a Stage 2 Hodgkin lymphoma survivor – said she was beginning to be “Ally” again.
Ally and her family know how vital blood donations are, especially to families in situations like theirs. Cancer patients are the No. 1 recipients of blood products, often requiring multiple blood or platelet transfusions to sustain them throughout treatment.
“We, as a family, decided that there was someone who gave blood, and it helped save Ally’s life. It's time we gave back as well,” her father said.
Ally knew a blood drive was the answer, and that’s where the Community Blood Center of the Carolinas came in. CBCC is your local, nonprofit blood bank, and the primary blood supplier to 27 regional hospitals, including LCH.
Ally is doing her part to pay it forward, to help others right here in our community who face situations like hers. You can help too. Join Ally and CBCC on Saturday, Aug. 13, at Atech Imagewear in Concord from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Your one blood donation can help save up to three local lives. It can also help Ally return the selfless acts of our local blood donors who helped ensure the blood products she needed were on the shelf, ready to help save her life.
