Blood Donation 101
For a great donation experience, please prepare for your donation with the tips below:
Eat Iron Rich Foods
Increase your iron-rich foods 1-2 weeks prior to donation. Taking a multivitamin with iron per day for a week before donation may help with iron levels.
Drink More Water
Increase your water consumption for at least two days prior to donation.
Get Enough Sleep
Get at least 8 hours of sleep the night before donation.
Limit highly-caffeinated drinks the day of donation, especially energy drinks.
Eat Balanced Meals
Eat well-balanced meals before and after your donation.
Bring Your I.D.
Bring a current officially-issued photo I.D. (such as a drivers' license).
Platelets: No Aspirin
To donate platelets, you cannot take Aspirin 48 hours prior to donation.
