Donors Like You
Katelyn WeeksKatelyn held a blood drive for our Students Saving Summer scholarship program in the summer of 2010 and collected 126 units of blood! The drive was held in memory of her cousin, Kyle Allen, who passed away in April 2010. The community rallied around this blood drive and came out to support Katelyn and the Allen family - a great example of community supporting community. CBCC recognized Katelyn at our 2010 awards banquet as the Student of the Year. |

Brian HuneycuttBrian is a dedicated platelet donor who gives every 2 weeks whenever possible, but his commitment doesn't end there. Brian works at Microsoft and applies for "matching funds" through their program for employees volunteering hours for community service. So on top of his "priceless" blood donation, CBCC has also received more than $10,000 dollars worth of Microsoft computer software. He also sits on the board of the Carolina Refugee Resettlement Agency, a non-profit that works with the UN to resettle refugees from other countries to Charlotte. Brian exemplifies CBCCs mission and vision in his own personal commitment to our community. |
Eddie and June"It's a matter of personal priorities. Me, I wouldn't consider not doing it." -- Eddie Booth, regular platelet donor. Eddie Booth lost a son to leukemia 21 years ago. Three years ago, he made a personal commitment to share part of himself with someone less fortunate in the community. Every three weeks he comes to CBCC to donate platelets. Eddie is inspired to save local lives. "God gave me the gift of life and the opportunity to help. It's always a pleasure. I'm grateful I can help." |

Jane Llewellyn"Mom are you keeping track of this? We need to make sure we give this back." -- Drew Llewellyn, died of lymphoma in 2006. Losing a son to cancer is a devastating loss. Keeping his memory and spirit alive by fulfilling his wishes provides some comfort. “Throughout Drew’s illness he received numerous transfusions,” says his mother, Jane Llewellyn. “Every time he received platelets, he made me promise that we’d replenish the supply. That’s why we sponsor ‘Drew’s Day’ where family and friends gather, tell Drew stories and donate blood - in his memory.” “I hope that for those who come to ‘Drew’s Day’ the experience scratches their conscience and they realize, ‘Hey, this is easy. I can do this ongoing.’” |

Donor Advisory GroupAs part of our efforts to expand our donor base and reach new sponsors, CBCC has formed the Donor Advisory Group. The group of whole blood, platelet donors and sponsors help support the mission and objectives of CBCC. The Donor Advisory Group meets monthly to discuss their experience as donors, providing valuable feedback and suggestions to help us better serve our community. In turn, we provide insight on how CBCC operates as a non-profit, community blood center. |
