{meet} Jon

Rock Hill, SC

“I'm living life...

Jon was eight years old when he was diagnosed with aplastic anemia, a bone marrow disorder that results in the inability to produce normal blood cells.  It took his doctors an entire year to bring the illness under control.  Unfortunately, it recurred twice over the next 20 years, each instance stronger than the last.

When he was 18, Jon began Intravenous Immunoglobulin therapy and frequent red blood cell transfusions.  At the age of 28, doctors discovered his bone marrow was still not producing blood cells normally.  Complicating the problem, his immune system attacked and destroyed healthy blood cells.  As a result, Jon required red cell and platelet transfusions every 5-7 days. In September of 2009, CBCC gave Jon an opportunity to meet some of his blood donors. At the time, 31 community blood donors had helped save his life.

Today, Jon enjoys a “normal life” in his 30s, thanks to his sister and local donors like you.

A few months later, doctors told Jon he needed a stem cell transplant. His sister Jennifer turned out to be a match and offered to be his donor. Jon continued to need blood transfusions through the time of his stem cell transplant.

CBCC is the primary blood supplier to the region’s patients and hospitals. Every Drop Stays Here. Saving Local Lives.

Thanks to local donors like you.”
