{meet} Sam

Morganton, NC

“I’m Superhero Strong...

Sam was a healthy, active two year old when a large tumor was discovered in his abdomen.  Shortly thereafter, Sam was diagnosed with stage four neuroblastoma – an aggressive childhood cancer that affects around 700 children a year in the United States.

But Sam and his family didn’t give up – they fought back.  He was admitted to Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte where Sam and his mother Denielle spent a majority of the following year.  Sam underwent many courses of treatment, including multiple surgeries, chemotherapy, radiation and immunotherapy.

The doctors estimated treatment would take at least 18 months – but Sam was superhero strong.  Thanks to over 10 blood and platelet transfusions, he was able to fight his disease just like his favorite action figures fight bad guys.

When you donate at CBCC, you’re helping kids like Sam. His family thanks you for giving blood, giving them hope and saving Sam’s life.

After only one year, Sam was released and declared in remission.  He is now at home in Morganton with his parents and older brother – playing superheroes and Legos and climbing on the jungle gym in the park.  There is no stopping his constant energy and wild imagination.

CBCC is the primary blood supplier to the region’s patients and hospitals.

Every Drop Stays Here. Saving Local Lives.

Thanks to donors like you.”
